Bi-folding Door Guide
Aluminium bi-fold doors sizing
Our aluminium bi-folding doors are all produced on a bespoke basis ensuring that your doors can be made to fit any opening required. Aluminium doors have a number of advantages compared with traditional UPVC. These include improved durability and strength which means you need less doors to fill your aperture maximising on light and views.
As a rough guide a standard 3 door set of bi-folding doors would be between 2,000 mm – 2,450 mm (2m – 2.45m high) or 2,500 mm- 3,000 mm (2.5m-3m wide)
We only supply the finest quality doors across the UK and advise that you employ a professional fitter to create the opening and install your doors.
If you are replacing an existing set of doors you will already have an opening so you will need to take precise measurements so we can manufacture your doors to the exact size. Additionally consider your living space so your doors can open without obstruction.
Maintenance
Security features
Our bi-folding doors offer a range of security details including.
- A multi-point locking system
- A kitemarked security lock
- Secure hinges
- Heavy duty handles
- Toughened glass
Safety
As a matter of law all bi-folding doors must have toughened or tempered safety glass, this makes the glass very strong. If the glass was to break it would be in small pieces rather than large shards.
Energy Saving
Our bi-folding doors are engineered to be very efficient in terms of keeping your heat in your home. Many doors have a thermal break between the 2 sections of frame, stopping heat going through the metal. This insulation can play a part in making your home more efficient to heat.
Sightlines refer to the amount of door frame between each piece of glass, the thinner the frame the better the view. Aluminium doors enables slimmer sightlines and the stronger frames mean that the frames can accommodate larger panes of glass.
Understanding U-Value allows you to choose the most energy efficient products possible. High rates of energy loss are not just bad for the environment they are also expensive!
Sliding doors can be configured in a number of ways with larger and more complex configurations costing more.
We offer a huge range of colour options for our sliding doors so if you’re looking for a style statement you’re in the right place!
Double glazing still offers excellent thermal efficiency and noise reduction but cannot compete with triple glazed units. However they are cheaper!
Our doors are available in double and triple glazed options.
The slimmer your sightlines the more expansive the view for examples our Origin Artisan Slider has sightlines just 20mm. So consider how you want your doors or windows to look. But don’t worry if you get stuck you can always call us for advice on 01606 810011 or download one of our brochures.
Remember that by choosing Aluminium Doors Direct you’re getting premium grade recyclable aluminium, possibly the strongest, most durable doors and windows you can buy.
Remember to consider your glazing, if your budget can stretch to it triple glazed systems offer better thermal efficiency and noise reduction. But if not our double glazed units are also superb!
When it comes to door locks and handles we have a huge range of options we recommend multi-point door locks as they prevent lock snapping and come with a minimum of 6 points of locking, making them robust and difficult to break into. With regard to handles we offer a wide range of options visit our brochure page to find out more…
Aluminium is the strongest material used to make window frames its strength means it will not be affected by differences in temperature and does not flex, twist, expand or contract unlike timber and UPVC. Aluminium windows also offer improved thermal efficiency with all frames having thermal break.
Our Origin range of windows feature Aerogel technology so powerful it is used in spacecraft with industry leading results for thermal efficiency. When you upgrade to Aerogel the Origin window achieves a BFRC energy rating of A++ making it the most thermally efficient window available.
Our aluminium windows also offer stunning slimline frame options giving the best possible external views. For more information regarding our aluminium windows visit
